Shisha Cleaning Products

What are Shisha Cleaning Brushes?

Shisha tobacco is packed with molasses and flavour syrup. After a session, that residue coats the inside of the stem, the base, and often the bowl — and water alone won't shift it. Cleaning brushes get the pipe back to neutral so the next session tastes like the shisha you're packing, not the one you packed last week.

A basic kit is three brushes. A narrow long-handled brush for the stem, reaching the full length of the hollow tube. A wider brush for the base, round enough to scrub the glass interior. A smaller brush handles tighter spaces like the bowl or a washable hose.

Rinse all parts under warm water — never cold water on a still-warm pipe, the thermal shock can crack glass or glaze. Push the stem brush through the pipe about a dozen times in each direction, then scrub the base interior, especially the neck and bottom curve. Air-dry everything before reassembling.

Rinse after every session; a full brush clean every one to two weeks for regular users, or between flavour changes when switching between strong and delicate blends.

Frequently asked

Questions about Shisha Cleaning Products

Can I just use dish soap and water?
Avoid dish soap inside the stem and bowl — it can leave a taste that lingers into future sessions even after rinsing. For the base, warm water with a little lemon juice, vinegar, or bicarb soda works well. A proper brush does the actual scrubbing; the cleaning agent helps break down sticky residue.
How often should I clean my shisha?
Rinse all parts with warm water after every session and always change the base water. A full brush-and-scrub clean every one to two weeks keeps the pipe from building up flavour ghost. If you switch between strong and delicate flavours, a quick rinse and brush between changes is worth the five minutes.
Do different pipes need different brush sizes?
Yes. Traditional Egyptian pipes have longer, narrower stems than modern German or Russian pipes and need longer brushes. Base diameter also varies — a small vase needs a narrower base brush than a wide modern glass base. A basic three-brush kit covers most setups; unusual pipe shapes may need custom sizes.
What kind of bristles should I use?
Soft nylon or natural bristles for the stem and base — they scrub effectively without scratching metal or glass. Avoid hard wire brushes on stems and bases; they can scratch anodised finishes and leave metal shavings. Brass wire brushes are acceptable only for burnt bowl residue, where brass is soft enough not to damage the glaze.
How do I clean a glazed clay bowl without damaging it?
Let the bowl cool fully to room temperature first — pouring water on a hot bowl causes microfractures in the glaze. Then rinse with warm (not boiling) water and use a soft brush or sponge. No dishwasher, no harsh solvents, no wire brushes. For stubborn char, soak in warm water for ten minutes before scrubbing gently.
Does brush brand actually matter?
Much less than fit. A correctly-sized brush with soft bristles from any reputable maker will clean your pipe well. What matters is that the stem brush reaches the full length of your pipe, the base brush fits through the neck of your base, and the bristles don't shed. Brand matters for handle durability, little else.
