At 87 mm tall with a six-hole traditional Turkish architecture, it's built for dark leaf and the longer, denser sessions that come with it.

MIT Luxury DarkStar — Unglazed Turkish Bowl for Dark Leaf, 12–15 g Capacity
Why This Shisha Bowl
- Unglazed stoneware exterior. The stippled matte finish you can feel is raw vitrified clay, not glaze. Twice-fired (950°C then 1240–1280°C) so it's hard enough to take coal heat and porous enough to develop flavour character over time.
- Sculptural double-curve silhouette. A stacked figure-eight form that's structurally unusual for a Turkish bowl. Visual identity from the first glance, before it ever sees a coal.
- Six-hole traditional Turkish architecture. Multi-hole base distributes heat across the tobacco pack instead of pulling through a single central column — exactly why dark leaf rides this style of bowl better than a phunnel.
- HMD or foil ready. Kaloud Lotus 1+ and 1+3 seat flush on the 72 mm rim. Foil setups with or without a Provost work just as cleanly.
- 12 to 15 g capacity. The sweet spot for dark leaf packs that need a longer, more controlled session.
- Made by hand in Turkey. Pressed, finished, fired, and stamped with the embossed MIT mark by Turkish ceramicists in small batches.
Fit & Compatibility
The 72 mm outer rim accepts the Kaloud Lotus 1+ and Lotus 1+3 with a flush seat — both confirmed by us in-store. Traditional aluminium foil setups work just as cleanly, with or without a Provost screen. The bowl sits on a standard hookah grommet, so it works with virtually any modern stem.
Care & Maintenance
- Rinse with warm (not hot) water and a soft brush after each session. The unglazed exterior absorbs flavour over time — some smokers dedicate the bowl to one flavour family for this reason.
- Avoid dish soap, abrasive cleaners, and dishwashers. Both can strip flavour character and damage the unglazed surface.
- Let the bowl cool fully before rinsing — thermal shock cracks clay.
- Store dry in a temperature-stable spot. Avoid stacking bowls on top of each other.

Is the DarkStar fully unglazed?
Yes — both the exterior and the interior are raw stoneware. Unlike the rest of MIT's range, DarkStar carries no glaze coat. The trade-off is a slightly more porous surface that absorbs and develops flavour character over time, which is part of why it sits firmly in the dark leaf category.
Can I use foil instead of an HMD?
Absolutely. The six-hole Turkish architecture was originally designed for foil packs long before HMDs existed. Foil with or without a Provost screen works cleanly, and many dark leaf smokers prefer foil for the more direct heat control.
How does this compare to a phunnel bowl?
A phunnel has a single raised spire that pulls heat through one central hole — favoured for blonde leaf and longer sessions with minimal molasses loss. A multi-hole Turkish like the DarkStar spreads heat across six points, which is what dark leaf needs to release flavour properly. Different tools for different tobaccos.

Handmade in Turkey — What to Expect MIT stands for Made In Turkey. Every MIT bowl is fully handmade — hand-shaped, hand-finished, and twice-fired in small batches by Turkish ceramicists. That craft signature comes with a few honest realities worth knowing before your first session.
Mass-produced bowls are identical because a machine made them. Every MIT bowl is different because a human did. The variation is the proof. |
