Reviews

Soft lavender washed across the body, pooling deeper at the stem — the colour of the purple quartz the Greeks named "amethystos." Counted among the cardinal gems of antiquity alongside diamond, ruby, sapphire, and emerald, carved into Roman intaglios and set into ecclesiastical jewellery for centuries. The Mitovation V2 architecture beneath: 5+1 hole hybrid build, 15 to 18 g capacity.

MIT Luxury Mitovation V2 Amethyst — 80 mm Hybrid Phunnel Bowl

Why This Shisha Bowl

  • Lavender gradient body. The glaze sits soft lavender at the rim and deepens to a richer purple where it pools at the stem. Each Amethyst piece runs the gradient slightly differently — small variation in how the colour shifts across the body. The unglazed band at the rim is the standard MIT kiln contact line.
  • Six-point airflow architecture. Five outer holes ringed around the bowl edge plus one hole through the spire top — heat travels through six distinct points rather than concentrating at a single spire opening. The result is a more even ember distribution and a softer draw than a pure phunnel bowl. The four-petal notch at the spire crown is MIT's design mark.
  • Light shisha, smooth draw. Built for blonde leaf brands — Al Fakher, Adalya, Starbuzz, Fumari — that benefit from a less restrictive draw than a single-hole phunnel offers. Mixed packs also sit well. Pure dark leaf can be done but burns through faster on this architecture.
  • HMD seat at 80 mm wide. Both the Kaloud Lotus 1+ and Lotus 1+3 sit flush on the 80 mm outer rim — confirmed across the four Mitovation V2 colourways. The wider rim gives the HMD a stable platform for two-hour sessions without rocking.
  • 15 to 18 g capacity range. Pack enough shisha for a long session without crowding the bowl. The 68 mm inner chamber gives the tobacco room to breathe and ember evenly between the spire and the rim.
  • MIT Turkish workmanship. The bowl is hand-shaped, hand-glazed, and twice-fired in MIT's Turkish workshop — 950°C bisque firing followed by a 1240 to 1280°C glaze firing that vitrifies the stoneware and locks the glaze permanently. The MIT mark is embossed on the stem.

Fit & Compatibility

On the 80 mm outer rim, both the Kaloud Lotus 1+ and Lotus 1+3 seat flush — both confirmed by our team across the Mitovation V2 range. The wider footprint compared to most single-spire phunnels gives the HMD an exceptionally stable platform across two-hour sessions. Foil setups, with or without a Provost screen, also work cleanly. Standard hookah grommet seat — fits any modern stem.

Care & Maintenance

  • Wipe the bowl out with warm (not hot) water and a soft brush after each session. The food-safe glaze means flavours don't transfer between sessions, so swapping shisha is fine.
  • Hold off on dish soap, abrasive cleaners, and dishwashers. All three degrade the glaze over time and can stress the stoneware body.
  • Pause before any rinse — let the bowl drop to room temperature before any water touches it. Cracks come from thermal shock more than from anything else.
  • Park the bowl somewhere dry between sessions and avoid stacking with other bowls. Clay edges chip when they touch each other.

Will my Amethyst bowl be a deep purple or a soft lavender?

Both, in a single piece — that's the nature of the Mitovation V2 glaze pattern. Each Amethyst bowl runs lighter lavender at the rim and deepens to a richer purple at the stem where the glaze pools. The exact intensity of the deeper purple varies between pieces — some bowls run more saturated overall, others stay paler at the body and deeper only at the base. Read the handmade variation notes below.

What's the best HMD pairing for this bowl?

The Kaloud Lotus 1+ is the standard pairing — proven across the Ashera and Mitovation V2 ranges, fits flush, and gives consistent heat across blonde leaf or mixed packs. The Lotus 1+3 (with three lid positions for adjustable heat) is a good upgrade if you like fine-tuning across a session. Both work with this bowl. Foil-and-Provost setups are also fine if you prefer manual coal control.

How long will this bowl last with regular use?

With reasonable care — no thermal shock, no dishwasher, no abrasive cleaners — an MIT bowl will smoke for years. The vitrified stoneware body is stable, the glaze is locked in by the second firing, and there are no moving parts to wear out. Most MIT bowls retire because the owner upgrades or breaks them by dropping, not because they age out of service.

Handmade in Turkey — What to Expect

MIT stands for Made In Turkey. Every MIT bowl is fully handmade — hand-shaped, hand-finished, and twice-fired in small batches by Turkish ceramicists. That craft signature comes with a few honest realities worth knowing before your first session.

  • Each piece is unique. Colour tone, size, surface pattern, texture, and glaze pooling vary subtly from the listing photos. The shape, capacity range, and overall character will match — the exact look won't be identical to the stock image.
  • Surface marks are part of the craft. Bowls can arrive with light dust, traces of clay residue, fine surface scratches, small dents, or minor chips along the rim or foot. These are inherent to a handmade ceramic and do not affect smoking performance.
  • Hairline cracks and bleeding are normal for clay. Natural stoneware can develop fine hairline cracks during firing or after extended use, and a small amount of molasses bleeding through unglazed sections is part of how clay behaves. Neither affects how the bowl smokes.
  • Rinse before your first session. Wash the bowl in warm (not hot) water with a soft brush to remove any kiln dust or workshop residue before you pack it.

Mass-produced bowls are identical because a machine made them. Every MIT bowl is different because a human did. The variation is the proof.
